Ready for a challenge? We’re looking for 20 Muslim women to be sponsored to take on The Nuts Challenge on Saturday 1 September to raise funds for Leicester based grass-roots community organisation, Somali Development Services (SDS), inshallah. You don’t have to be super-fit to take part; you just need a good sense of humour and bags of determination.
Our challenge, Eid Mud Run 2018 – Let’s go nuts, will take place two weeks after Eid al-Adha, inshallah. The Nuts Challenge is an exciting, fun and muddy obstacle race held twice a year in the beautiful Surrey countryside, near London. We will take on the 7km challenge, known as More Nuts. This 1 lap challenge is perfect for those who just want to have a go and try something new.
There is no pressure on More Nuts, so we can take it at our own pace and only take on the obstacles we want to (though we’ll jolly well try our best to conquer them all). Participating sisters will encounter mud, a water assault course, climbing, crawling and challenging obstacles all the way round. Not to mention amazing fraternity across cultural and regional boundaries from a diverse, fun-loving and supportive team of exceedingly brave Muslim women.
The organisation we’re raising funds for was established to safeguard the well-being and human dignity of Somali refugees and other new arrivals in Leicester city through research, education, advocacy, information, empowerment and support. SDS helps the most disadvantaged communities in their city and its services are a lifeline for people in great need.
Unfortunately, due to years of austerity, demand for SDS services has increased exponentially, which has created tremendous pressures. Sadly, it is becoming almost impossible to support the most marginalised people in their city. SDS needs to increase capacity urgently. That is why we are planning to fundraise on their behalf.
To find out more, please visit our Facebook event page or download our info leaflet. To sign up please go to www.thenutschallenge.co.uk/charity-events and click on the SDS logo (Saturday at 11.40am). This will take you to the secure registration page. There is an entry fee of £45.99, which gives you access to the marshalled 7km obstacle course, plus a technical sports t-shirt and medal.
We hope that you can join us. It’s going to be fantastic!
